When it comes to Japanese Anime, nobody captures the imagination better than Hayao Miyazaki.
Considered to be the “Walt Disney of Japan,” Hayao Miyazaki has certainly proven and lived up to his title. He has created countless anime movies that continue to fascinate both young and old alike. His characters both exude stoic heroism and childlike fascination for things of the unknown.
At 64, Miyazaki combines writing and directing in Studio Ghibli, of which he is co-founder. Under the studio outfit, he has created anime movies that fascinate millions of fans all over the world. Some of their famous titles include, Princess Mononoke, where forest sprites and gods are fighting to retain and keep the forest safe from humans. Spirited Away, the film that won Best Animated Feature in the 2002 Oscars, is probably Miyazaki’s most popular film to date, in terms of worldwide audience. It was the second highest grossing film in Japan, just under Titanic at approximately $300 million. The last film released by Miyazaki to date was Ponyo and the Cliff on the Sea last 2008.
Miyazaki’s films incorporate cute, funny, grimy, handsome and creepy characters. His main themes are as varied and interesting as their traits. You will find that his movies inculcate Japanese animistic beliefs, environmentalism, human flight, pacifism, feminism, children and love. He not only sets his characters, their world and struggles into motion, but he brings them to life. Allowing the audience to live and feel as they do.
Therefore, it is no wonder that not only children are enraptured by Miyazaki films, but adults who still have a piece of childlike fascination in their hearts are also spellbound with his work.

I seen Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away and it was definitely interesting… unique in its own way but you’re right, it seems as though his movies stand out a little more.
